Our Rich
Richard Gorglione, a man whose life spanned seventy-six wonderful years, passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2025. Born on December 30th, 1948, Rich was the son of Rose and Rick Gorglione. His early years in the Bronx laid the foundation for a life marked by service, love, and a deep commitment to his family and friends.
Upon graduating high school, Rich answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968. His commitment to his country led him to serve in the Vietnam War, a period of his life shaped his character and instilled in him a profound sense of responsibility. His military service concluded in March 1972.
While still serving in the Air Force, Rich was introduced by mutual friends to Gail Zeidler. Their connection was immediate, blossoming into a deep and enduring love. In 1974, Rich and Gail sealed their commitment to one another in marriage, embarking on a life journey together that would be filled with 51 years of shared joys and unwavering support for each other.
Rich and Gail’s family grew with the arrival of their two sons, Chris and Matt. For Rich, family was not just a part of his life; it was the very essence of it. As one of eight children in a large and loving family, he understood the importance of connection, support, and shared experiences. He poured his heart and soul into being a devoted father, prioritizing the happiness, health, and overall well-being of his children and wife above all else. He actively engaged in their lives, creating lasting memories through numerous vacations, camping trips, fishing expeditions, and scouting adventures, fostering in them a love for life and a strong sense of family.
For over two decades, Rich dedicated his professional life to the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). He rose through the ranks, holding various supervisory positions across bus depots throughout the five boroughs of New York City. His tenure at the MTA was characterized by his strong work ethic, his ability to lead and manage teams, and his commitment to the City of New York, his hometown. In 2010, after years of dedicated service, Rich retired, marking the beginning of a well-deserved period of relaxation and new adventures.
In 2012, Rich and Gail relocated to the welcoming community of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. There, they embraced the slower pace of life, relishing the pleasant weather that allowed them to enjoy the outdoors year-round. They quickly established a vibrant social life, spending joyful hours socializing with many new friends during happy hours and becoming active members of the local Moose club. Retirement also afforded them the opportunity to pursue their shared passion for travel. Together, Rich and Gail explored the wonders of the world, venturing to ten different countries (and Hawaii), creating a wealth of cherished memories together.
Throughout his life, Rich was known for his inherent kindness and his unwavering willingness to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was friends, family members, or even complete strangers, Rich’s generosity and compassionate spirit shone brightly. He was the kind of person who would go out of his way to offer assistance, embodying a true sense of selflessness. Even after retirement, Rich volunteered for the local chapter of Disabled American Veterans (DAV). While his time with DAV was short, it brought him so much happiness.
Rich was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Rose and Rick Gorglione, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became. He leaves behind his loving wife, Gail, his sons, Chris and Matt, and his many loving siblings, who will all deeply feel the void left by his passing.
